Have you commenced using Single Touch Payroll?

As you are most likely aware, business were required to commence reporting payroll via Single Touch Payroll (STP) effective from 1st July 2019 and should ensure they are reporting by 30th September 2019 to be compliant.

For those businesses employing between 1 and 4 employees, they have the option to report quarterly rather than each time a payroll is run. This option will be available until 30th June 2021.

There are a number of low cost software options available to assist with this reporting.

Some common mistakes that the ATO are seeing in relation to STP reporting are as follows:
  • Some employers do not have internal authorisations in place before they commence reporting. This means that the person who will be sending the STP report may not be the business owner or the public officer and they need to make sure they have been given the appropriate delegations.
  • STP reports will not be received unless the correct SSID is provided – usually done by calling the ATO or through a one-off notification through access manager.

If you need any assistance with STP reporting, please feel free to call our expert bookkeeper, Toni Brunsgard on 9387 5637.
